Drake has always wondered what happened to Paige that night ten years ago. They were supposed to meet, but she never showed, so he assumes she couldn’t deal with the fact that he was a werewolf, despite their love. What else should he think? So when Paige unexpectedly shows up on his doorstep, all of those unresolved feelings and passion assault him. She is making a claim that she needs protection and he wants answers about what happened to her. But everything comes at a price and if Paige needs Drake’s help, he knows exactly what the price is going to be.

I read this novella because it was quick and I knew I didn’t have a lot of time. I didn’t realize that it was the middle book of the series until after I had read it. Other than character associations, I don’t know where the book would have picked up; possibly with Paige finding out about the plan to kill Drake, but I cannot be sure. What I am saying is that I had absolutely no issue understanding this book and while it is 3rd in the series, it could easily have been a standalone. I have to say I am quite intrigued by the idea of a vampire/werewolf relationship. They are so different from one another despite a few similarities. In a world where both species are notorious for their bone-deep hatred, somehow this relationship works. Of course, it helps that Drake is an Alpha and can order his pack to obey his decree or challenge him. With a pack, it would not have worked otherwise to bring a vampire in to the fold under the Alpha’s protection. The two characters obviously cared for one another even after such a long absence. Also appreciated was that it wasn’t a weak story. There was depth and emotion behind the web of lies spun around Drake and Paige; betrayal so intense that everyone is shocked at the revelation. The raw animal attraction between Paige and Drake is palpable and super sexy. One thing is for sure … I will most definitely be continuing with this series and I’d definitely be willing to check out other books written by this author. Lucky me, I actually have one of the other books in this series, so I will be jumping right into it ~ Bound by Blood ~ I’m looking forward to seeing where this series begins with the first book. Overall, definitely recommended for a quick, spicy, paranormal read!

I accidentally read these out of order, but it turned out not to be a problem. This is the third in the series, but can and was read out of order or stand alone.
This is exactly how a novella should be is what I thought as this one leaped into the action revealing what is really going on a little at a time so that as you turn each plot corner a new and delightful surprise awaits.
The story begins with a vampire, Paige, coming to the dangerous lair of the werewolves' alpha, Drake to speak to him about a proposition. It has been over ten years since the last time Paige has seen Drake. Last time she was human and this time she is a vampire- the same race that killed his family. Drake had loved her and she him, but all he knew was that she left him waiting by the lake waiting for her.
No sooner than she is escorted in to talk to him and make her proposal- that he kill Gabe another vampire for her- which he accepts on one condition because he is still attracted to her and wants her, but the walled estate is attacked by vamps. The wolves think she set them up. Can she convince Drake that she came for an entirely different purpose? Will he think from his heart or out of vengeance?
The plot was necessarily fast moving and gets to the point quickly with such a low word count, but what there was did not waste around with anything unnecessary nor did it leave anything important out. There is steamy romance, action, intrigue and betrayal. Good stuff!
The characters are not real deep, but they are not just two dimensional. Paige and Drake had such sad pasts that you really cheer them on to have this chance now and to really stick it to the villain.
I really enjoyed the story and I plan to go back and read the other two along with more of Ms. Eden's work.
Wow, I'm not a big fan of novellas or paranormals generally, but I totally loved this book! Although this is the third in a series, each of the stories can absolutely stand alone. I'll admit I'm a sucker for young loves who are torn away from each other, so this one definitely called to me from the first. Paige and Drake were both wonderful and I couldn't help but fall in love with them. These two were utter soul mates and their love and passion for each other was beautiful to behold. Though Paige was a vampire, I liked the fact that she was a human first and never seemed to lose that part of herself. Then there was Drake, the alpha of his pack, who would give it and his life up for Paige in a heartbeat. This story was fast-paced with never a dull moment and full of suspense. There were a number of surprises along the way and nothing was ever too predictable. Simply a touching and moving tale of two souls who were made for each other, separated by betrayal and lies, but that ultimately fate could not keep apart. Just a great read overall and one that I'd undoubtedly recommend!
